Next Steps

Page history last edited by Brenna Bowman 7 mos ago

4/1/09-

  • The meeting with LEAG was a success
  • A subcommittee of LEAG was formed to used Clean Air Cool Planet as Lehigh's Greenhouse Gas Inventory Calculator
  • By the LEAG meeting in June, members of the subcommittee will add a list of contacts to the CACP calculator to make it easier for future users of the calculator to gather new information
  • Until Lehigh hires a campus sustainability coordinator, the calculator will be maintained by students in cooperation with facilities
  • LEAG will add a subtext of the climate committment to include information about the GHG calculator as a part of a sustainability action plan

3/6/09-

  • We will be presenting at the next LEAG meeting on March 18, to get LEAG to officially adopt the Clean Air Cool Planet greenhouse gas calculator as the official one for Lehigh University
  • This is in response to a declaration by the Facilities Department that they will not use the Clean Air Cool Planet GHG inventory calculator and instead try to make their own, a move that is problematic.
  • Facilities will be getting back to me with missing and necessary data to input into CACP's GHG calculator sometime early next week.
  • Green Action is currently in the process of making a petition to the Transportation Services Department at Lehigh to call for more sustainable practices.
  • Transportation Services has failed to schedule a meeting with me despite repeated attempts

1/25/09 -

  • There are problems with the current Greenhouse Gas Inventory involving Microsoft Excel. As a result, the file will not open. I plan on scheduling a meeting with Gary Falasca, Jason Slipp, and others to fix this problem.
  • Other focus points:
    • Lighting- Lehigh's energy consumption can be reduced by eliminating unnecesarry lighting, especially in buildings where the lights are on almost all day, such as the libraries.
    • Transportation- A modification of Lehigh's current shuttle system can reduce greenhouse gas emissions a great deal. A conversion of Lehigh's shuttle vehicles to biodiesel and a switch from buses to vans during non-peak hours will accomplish this.
    • LVAIC Conference- Opportunity to present a poster
