In the context of campus sustainability, social justice encompasses a variety of elements:
- Purchase and sell fairly traded products and eliminate products that are not
- Purchase only Fair Trade Certified coffee, tea, chocolate/cocoa, rice, sugar, vanilla, bananas, mangoes, and cotton unless grown in the United States [As of 2008—check Transfair USA for updates.]
- Purchase only 'sweat-free' clothing and apparel, with production facilities certified to avoid all unfair, coercive, and unsafe working conditions
- Eliminate all athletic wear and other products produced under sweatshop conditions
- Pay a fair living wage to all campus workers, and require subcontractors to do likewise [As of 2008, a living wage in the Lehigh Valley was estimated to be no less than $12.50/hour.]
- Invest operating and endowment funds only in ethical companies that contribute to a more sustainable world; divest from any companies that manufacture or profit from products or services that damage the environment, violate human rights, or work against social justice
- Consider social, human rights, and environmental justice impacts in all planning and decisions
